The Studio, home to Germany's leading professional Meisner classes, embarked just over fifteen years ago on our first year-long, foundational acting programmes.
This is a unique opportunity for anyone who is serious about the craft of acting, and is looking to train, or re-train, the necessary skills. What follows is the framework of our upgraded ACTING FOR CAMERA PROGRAMME.
Since its formation the Studio, directed by André Bolouri, has been redefining the training of actors and directors here in Germany. Based in equal measure on European, English and American traditions, our unique approach to acting will teach you, in absolutely practical ways, to relate deeply to your inner truth, to your partner's behaviour and react from moment to moment. Taught by André Bolouri and other members of the team, this is the most comprehensive unfolding of the Meisner Technique and its further development by André Bolouri to train the actor to become self-reliant and to discover the depth of his potential. Which will give him the confidence to meet the demands of todays acting industry while inspiring the artist within him-/herself.You will discover how to work from your character's point of view, improvising freely within the character's circumstances. Through the year you will work repeatedly with scenes and monologues to test and deepen your understanding of the work. Studying text analysis, the creation of character and good audition practice, you will have the chance in the final semester to participate in a film production, as part of the Actors-Space Ensemble. This year will allow you to be playful, spontaneous and authentic in every moment of your work and will lead you to a genuine openness and freedom in front of the camera.
This is the only Meisner actors program in Europe that offers a fully invested and inclusive experience of all the exercises as they are taught in New York and developed further, and channels their lessons into real familiarity with film work.
The Meisner Core Course, taught by André Bolouri, runs from mid-October, three times per week, and covers the whole spectrum of exercises and principles developed in New York by Sanford Meisner. The emphasis, as ever, is on a vigorous and lively contact with your acting partner, reacting from moment to moment with truthful behaviour and uncensored emotion. You will work to strengthen your imaginative life and stimulate your faith in the given circumstances of the scene. Acting demands transparency and authenticity at all times, and Meisner's nurturing of a strong inner life and outer effortlessness is the perfect system of study for screen or stage work. The Core Program includes: Dominik Stegmann who is an experienced acting coach with a strong background in script-analysis, working with successful German actors and actresses. He created a unique programme to support the actor in his work in front of the camera and his/ her preparation of the script. He is directing and teaching our camera-training.
This Programme is suitable for experienced or new actors, who wish to create or refresh a solid foundation for their work. This combination of training makes the Year-Long Programme totally unique.
Doing the year-long course at Actors Space was honestly one of the best decisions I've made. It gets to the core, you are challenged, tears flow, people laugh, lots of jokes are made and, above all, a lot is learned. In every hour I found out something new about myself and my acting. It was really an outstanding time with everything that goes with it and it was a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who was part of this year, it was awesome!!
The annual course in Actors Space was very enriching and educational. It is an intensive journey in a respectful and transparent environment that supports you in developing professionally and personally. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, dear Ursula Renneke, for your passionate work. We were not only challenged in a positive way, but also supported with appreciation. The Meisner technique is very far-reaching and offers wonderful support in consciously dealing with your own emotions and focusing on the moment to express what you have experienced authentically. Thanks to Niina Walter for the enriching camera weekends. Thanks to André Bolouri and the whole team for making these courses possible. Thanks to my group for supporting each other and for a wonderful year!
I was looking for an alternative to the classic acting schools and am very happy that I discovered Actors Space and was able to do my acting training here! The combination of camera training with Meisner technology is unique. If you want to be trained as a film actor and want to learn an acting technique that focuses on authenticity and real experience, the one-year course at Actors Space is just the right thing for you. I would choose it again and again! For me, the studio was always a very special place where I could surpass myself in a protected environment. Dear Actors Space team, I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the exciting and wonderful time! Thank you for your patience, your enthusiasm and your support. It was always very inspiring to work with you! I will definitely continue to visit the studio in the future.
I did the year long course on Meisner Technique with André and I’m more than grateful for the training I had. Every class was unique and André was giving his %100 each time. Camera workshops with Dominik and his feedbacks were great help as well. There is no end to learning but I feel ready to go on my way with the tools I learned in this course and will join more classes/workshops there in the future. Thank you very very much!
For me, the one-year course was not only extremely instructive, but also particularly important. I had reached a point with acting where I was looking for more in acting than I saw in the German TV and cinema landscape. The Meisner technique with all its tools helped me a lot to develop myself as an actor much further than I could have imagined before. Andre Bolouri was a special bonus. Even in the difficult moments for me, he gave the important impulse that allowed me to move forward and helped me to overcome many hurdles. It wasn't always easy, but it definitely enriched me a lot as an actor.
"Through the one-year course, I learned how to prepare myself intellectually and physically for a scene and then let go at the moment of playing and be with my partner, my feelings and sensations. It was always exciting to see how your own life is reflected in every scene and how you can find parallels to yourself in every situation. Again and again I have noticed how important it is to make decisions, to take responsibility and not to give up. For me, it was incredibly liberating to let my emotions flow out of me uncensored, to forget about the fear of the audience and to feel only my partner and my own reactions."
"The annual course was an intensive acting experience for me and beyond. I dealt with everything that I had encountered in my acting path so far. It was like an "unraveling of the acting processes" that I have used so far. What is What has happened so far... what is conscious, what is unconscious. What behavioral patterns and habits do I have in this process. Changes were possible through the new experiences through the Meisner technique with the various exercises and through working in the group . These changes were sometimes hard to achieve; I was unsettled and it was sometimes difficult for me not to lose the fun of playing. Today I have the feeling that I haven't completely "broken through" yet, but in moments during the annual course I had it and overall I have the taste of it. In some rehearsals during the annual course, when a scene went well, I experienced a whole new quality of playing, lightness and joy. Experiencing this again and again...I want to continue working on it and I now have the necessary resources to do so.
I'm grateful for this year and for all the experiences I've had."
What I took away most from the course were directness, concentration and commitment. Coming to class with no preparation or negligent preparation has proven to be absolutely frustrating for me. In order for the game, the scene, the activity to work, I had to invest time and overcome myself to go to the points from which I otherwise try to protect myself, to sense fears and blockages - but also wishes and longings and to develop an awareness of them, what drives me... In the long term, I found your method of coaching me cool and I experienced a profound process with your help. I think the directness with which you work is extremely important for your work as an actor and inspiring for everyday life. So often I experience how people behave, gloss over things or stop at them out of inhibition. For me, being direct means breaking through the walls, being able to grasp and tackle the important points and allowing yourself to be honest. I learned that from you. Thank you for your time, your patience and your work, André!
